Medicine

Medicine trains you to become a physician (MD) — diagnosing illness, treating patients, and saving lives. It is one of the most respected and demanding fields in Afghanistan, combining deep science with hands-on clinical care.

What you'll study

• Anatomy, physiology and biochemistry — how the body is built and works
• Pathology, microbiology and pharmacology — disease and how medicines act
• Clinical rotations in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics and gynecology
• Diagnosis, patient examination and medical ethics

Where it can take you

• General practitioner in hospitals, clinics or your own practice
• Specialist after further training (surgeon, cardiologist, gynecologist and more)
• Public-health and NGO medical roles
• Medical research and university teaching

How long it takes

About 7 years to earn the MD, including a clinical internship, followed by optional specialization.
